My father is a bugisness, an ethnic of indonesia that most of them are fisheries. they living in main island of sulawesi (celebes) or in many small islands around sulawesi, in makassar strait. Their home are made of wood, roof of "nipah" somekind of coconut tree's leaf. Home it self is upstairs, "basement" usually used as warehouse, to put their tools, sampan (small boat) etc.
Laiya island ... approximately 100 families living at this island and most of them is living in sulawesi right now. Until 10 years ago, this island has many ship entrepreneur, the ships sailing across the strait to Borneo and others island to gather meals, woods, fertilizer etc.. they were wealthy. their sons is set to be a sailor and sailing since their a young boy.
Since marine transportation changed, traditional ship were left, they were left.. those stuff are carried by much larger cargo. The island are left by the inhabitant to get a better life. you might find many broken ship at the beach, the ships that was bringing life for their children..
